Year 10 Work Experience for 2016/2017 has now closed.

If you have missed out then there are still options for you. We recommend our Aquarist for a Day and Aquarist for a Week programs. These run during the school holidays and provide you with unique opportunities to work directly with some of our animals, including archerfish in our Rainforest, sea stars in the Rock Pools, and penguins in the Antarctica exhibit. Some of these experiences and opportunities are not available during the normal Work Experience program. You will also be involved with feeding, food preparation and daily tasks involved in keeping the animals safe and healthy. More information, including costs, can be found at http://www.melbourneaquarium.com.au/experiences/aquarist-programs/.

Our conservation group SEA LIFE Trust also offers the Ocean Youth program for 14 – 17 year olds  who are keen ocean lovers and want to find out how they can make a difference to protect it. This program is about getting you back into our big Blue Backyard and having some good old fashioned fun as well as kitting you up to help you become an influential leader and change maker around sustainability and ocean conservation. You’ll be kayaking with sea dragons, seals and dolphins, doing citizen science in Port Phillip Bay and assisting the SEA LIFE team with health checks of rescued marine animals. The cost of the program is $950 for the year and includes all activities as well as putting you in the funding pool as part of the end of year project pitchfest. You can apply online at www.oceanyouth.org.

Animal Husbandry: 101 Program

For those students studying Marine Biology, Zoology, Animal Biology or Conservation we recommend our Animal Husbandry: 101 program. Activities include a Shark Dive in the 2.2 million litre Oceanarium, a one-on-one session with SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium’s Vet, animal behavioural training and husbandry assistance, animal enrichment activities, animal feeds and assisting with maintaining exhibits.

Costs start from $1299 for one week placement. For more information please contact our Bookings Officer on (03) 9923 5911.
