OCEAN KIDS TOPICS

Suitable for Foundation - Year 2

BOOK NOW

Students will embark on an underwater journey to meet the amazing animals on display and discover their unique features. They will identify the basic needs of living things and learn about the diverse ways animals survive in their habitats. Students will also learn how some animals’ features are adapted to their environment and make comparisons with familiar animals.

KEY FOCUSES INCLUDE:

Basic needs of living organisms

Marine environments and habitats

Animal survival and adaptation

Growth and change in marine animals

VICTORIAN CURRICULUM CONNECTIONS:

Science Understanding: Biological Sciences

Living things have a variety of external features and live in different places where their basic needs, including food, water and shelter, are met (VCSSU042)

Living things grow, change and have offspring similar to themselves (VCSSU043).

Science Understanding: Science as a human endeavour

People use science in their daily lives (VCSSU041)

Science Inquiry Skills: Planning and conducting

Respond to and pose questions, and make predictions about familiar objects and events (VCSIS050)

Participate in guided investigations, including making observations using the senses, to explore and answer questions (VCSIS051)

Suitable for  Year 3 - Year 4

BOOK NOW

SEALIFE educators will introduce students to a variety of habitats, investigating how animals have adapted to survive in a variety of conditions, and how these influence their growth and survival. Students will deepen their understanding of the differences between living, once living and products of living things by examining ocean artefacts and a range of unique organisms. They will be given the tools to identify animals based on physical characteristics and classify them into groups.

KEY FOCUSES INCLUDE:

Characteristics of living, once living and products of living things

External features of animals

Classification

Animal survival and adaptation

VICTORIAN CURRICULUM CONNECTIONS:

Science Understanding: Biological Sciences

Living things can be grouped on the basis of observable features and can be distinguished from non-living things (VCSSU057)

Different living things have different life cycles and depend on each other and the environment to survive (VCSSU058)

Science Understanding: Science as a human endeavour

Science knowledge helps people to understand the effects of their actions (VCSSU056)

Suitable for Year 3 - Year 4

BOOK NOW

Students will explore a variety of marine habitats and investigate the lives of the species that live there. They will identify the roles species have in food chains and the impact humans can have on these. They will also observe animals in different stages of their life cycles and learn about the diverse ways marine creatures have young.

KEY FOCUSES INCLUDE:

Life cycles

Food chains

Habitats

Ecosystems

BOOK NOW

With a focus on extreme habitats including coral reefs, open ocean, rock pools and Antarctica, students will investigate how animals have adapted to survive in a variety of conditions, and how these influence their growth and survival. Students will also participate in a hands-on investigation using model jaws to discover how dentition and jaw shape are adapted to different diets.

KEY FOCUSES INCLUDE:

Australian habitats

Extreme environments

Adaptations for survival

VICTORIAN CURRICULUM CONNECTIONS:

Science Understanding: Biological Sciences

Living things have structural features and adaptations that help them to survive in their environment (VCSSU074)

The growth and survival of living things are affected by the physical conditions of their environment (VCSSU075)
