LUNAR NEW YEAR AT SEA LIFE

We are celebrating Lunar New Year and welcoming the Year of the Rat with spectacular underwater dragon dances and other festive activities from 25 January – 2 February.

Watch the vibrant underwater dragon swim alongside the sharks, rays and fish in the 2.2 million litre Oceanarium every day at 1:40pm!

Visit the Penguin Playground – home to SEA LIFE Melbourne’s famous sub-Antarctic King and Gentoo penguins – where you can place your New Year wish on the Wishing Wall.

Create a jellyfish lantern in the new Ocean Invaders zone and pose for two different Lunar New Year photos as you wander through the aquarium.

Go on an enchanting journey with the new Lunar New Year virtual reality experience where you will be dazzled by colourful gems and sparkling waterfalls as you ride on the back of a very talkative dragon!

Listen out for presentations and educational talks in Mandarin and receive a FREE toy by spending $88 in the gift shop or purchasing a kids fish and chips meal from the café.

Underwater Dragon Dance

This performance is a form of traditional dance in Chinese culture, most often seen in festive celebrations. This unique, underwater dance is performed by a team of divers manipulating a long flexible figure of a dragon, simulating the movements of this river spirit in a sinuous.

Where and when: Oceanarium every day at 1:40pm.

 

Free Lunar New Year Craft activities

Create your own jellyfish lantern or colouring in jellyfish at new Ocean Invaders Creative space, the Wonder Room.

Wishing Wall

Share your greatest wish for the Year of the Rat at our Penguin wishing wall! Wishing Walls are a Lunar New Year tradition where visitors can write down wishes for the new year and then pin them to the wall with others for good luck.

Lunar new Year photo fun

Guests can pose for an exclusive Lunar New Year photo in the Penguin Playground to share with friends and family.

Lunar New year kids lunch special

Chow down on our delicious fish and chips Lunar New Year kids meal and receive mini penguin! $13.90 each.
