While you definitely won’t see any saddled horses at SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium this Melbourne Cup Day, swim in and see the horses of the sea!
As their name suggests, seahorses get their name due to the shape of their heads closely resembling that of a horse. However, unlike like their four-legged friends dashing down the main straight, seahorses are among the slowest swimming animals in the world. These fascinating little sea creatures rapidly flutter their tiny dorsal fins to propel themselves through the water, whilst using pectoral fins located behind their eyes to steer.
Home to the world’s largest display of seahorses and seahorses; don’t miss your chance to get up close to these weird and wonderful creatures in SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium’s Seahorse Pier exhibit.
Horses aren’t the only big thing in Melbourne this Cup Day, come in and see how Melbourne’s MEGA Croc Pinjarra is settling into his state-of-the art Croc Lair exhibit. Whether he’s camouflaged in the shallow water ready for ambush or basking on the flat terrain, Pinjarra’s enormous and powerful five metre, 750kg frame must be seen to be believed!
Throughout the day, SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium will become a croc-tastic fun zone with plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy, including special presentations.
The Seahorse Pier and Croc Lair exhibits are just two of the amazing zones to be discovered at the all-new SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium.
